President
Maricela Avelar
Maricela is a bilingual (Spanish/English) School Psychologist who has been proudly serving the Elk Grove Unified School District community since 2012. She holds an M.A. and an Ed.S. from Sacramento State University. Maricela’s career has been driven by her love for supporting diverse families and helping students thrive. While she has spent the majority of her time at the elementary level, she also brings valuable experience working within specialized LEVELS classrooms and Nonpublic Schools (NPS).

Lauryn Skipper
Lauryn is a first-year school psychologist at EGUSD, having earned her MA and EdS in counseling and school psychology from the University of the Pacific. She has been a paraeducator and after-school teacher in EGUSD since 2018, where she cultivated a passion for supporting diverse students, families, and educational stakeholders. Her goal is to positively influence Title I and low socioeconomic groups in the community.

Shelby LeBlanc
Shelby is a graduate student at CSU Sacramento and completed her M.A. in Spring 2026. She is currently pursuing her Ed.S degree and LPCC license while working as a school psychologist intern in Elk Grove Unified School District. Shelby is passionate about supporting students from diverse backgrounds in our ever-changing world. Her interests include counseling, early childhood education, and trauma-informed schools.

Melisa Valenzuela
Melisa is a school psychologist intern at EGUSD who earned her M.A. in School Psychology at CSUS. She is currently working with elementary, middle, and high school students to diversify and expand her field experience. Melisa is passionate about working in diverse schools and advocating for equitable practices.

Cecillia L. Rodriguez
Cecilia is currently a school psychologist at Elk Grove Unified School District, primarily in the Valley region. She graduated with her Ed.S. and M.A. in School Psychology from CSU, Sacramento. Cecilia immigrated from Peru, Lima and fluently speaks Spanish. Cecilia’s areas of interests are working with students and families from diverse backgrounds, such as refugees and LGBTQ populations. It is her desire to be a liaison between children and their educational needs, present and future.

Iliana Becerra
Iliana is a school psychologist intern in the Elk Grove Unified School District. She is currently a third-year graduate student at CSU Sacramento, where she earned her M.A. Degree and is studying for her Ed.S degree. Currently, Iliana supports schools at the elementary and high school level. Her professional interests include promoting positive behavior and social-emotional learning, working with students and families from diverse populations, collaborating with teachers and staff, and supporting our students through a strengths-based approach.

Sophie Stroh
Sophie Stroh is a first-year school psychologist with Elk Grove Unified School District. During her graduate training, she had the opportunity to support a variety of school sites across the district, which helped shape her passion for working with students from all backgrounds. She recently earned her Ed.S in School Psychology from California State University, Sacramento. Sophie is dedicated to helping students thrive by building strong relationships, using data to guide decisions, and collaborating closely with families and school teams.

Karla Martinez
Karla is a school psychologist in the Elk Grove Unified School District. She earned her Ed.S and M.A. degrees from CSU Sacramento. Currently, Karla supports schools at the elementary level and self-contained behavior classes at the high school level. Her professional interests include building relationships with students and families, working with students from diverse populations, and supporting our English language learner population.

Melissa Pendleton
Melissa is a school psychologist intern in the Elk Grove Unified School District. She earned her M.A. degree from CSU Sacramento and is currently pursuing her Ed.S. degree. She is completing her internship at both the elementary and high school levels. She is passionate about fostering a positive and inclusive school climate, building collaborative relationships with students, families, and staff, and supporting students from diverse backgrounds.
